Film Project Planning Research - Life As We Know It

The film Marin and I are creating is a romantic comedy based on two people who can't stand each other and are forced together, eventually creating a loving relationship. A movie that stands out prominently in my mind when I think about romantic comedies is "Life As We Know It". Created in 2010 and nominated for two Teen Choice Awards in 2011, Josh Duhamel and Katherine Heigl bring a comedic and beloved story of love and hate to the screens. In the beginning of the movie, we, the audience, is introduced to Holly Berenson and Eric Messer, friends of a couple who are going on a date. The first scene depicts Holly getting primped up for said date, doing her hair and makeup, dressing in a fashionable red dress, and sitting for seemingly hours, waiting for Eric, who shows up in a dirty biker jacket, a baseball cap, and no reservations for dinner. Holly, who is extremely irritated for his careless attitude and attire towards their night, begins to iterate to Eric that the date was only happening due to their mutual friends wanting it. Eric, insulted, argues back and raises his voice, resulting in a much louder argument. Holly throws him out of her car before even leaving her driveway, and calls Alison, saying "Alison, the only way you could make this up to me is if you'll make sure I never have to see him again". This scene offered multiple shots, such as two shot and over the shoulder shot as camera shots and shot reverse shot for the editing techniques used for their dialogue scene. The scene was incorporated before the credits, showing us that time has passed before the beginning scene and the next scene shown. They featured the cast, director, film producers, and crew jobs next to collages of pictures of the characters. Analyzing the four minutes of the "Life As We Know It" will help me deepen my planning and understanding of this project.
