Film Project Planning Research - Clueless

Image result for clueless movie poster

While planning the film project, I'm looking at films under the same genre. Clueless is a romantic comedy which will help me further my knowledge for my project. Within the first two minutes of the film, most of the shots are filmed over the soundtrack song "Kids in America" by Kim Wilde and a voice-over of Cher's narration. It portrays many cuts of a pool party, Cher shopping, hanging out with her friend Dionne, drinking milkshakes, and driving her Jeep. They use many shooting techniques, such as two shot, pan shot, aerial shot, over the shoulder shot, and employed the use of hand-held camera. They also incorporated multiple editing techniques such as zoom/reverse room and uses transitions such as dissolve and cutting to create the hectic party atmosphere within the first two minutes. The costumes worn are popular 90's clothing, with extravagant and first class fashion choices. There are no jobs or cast names portrayed in the first two minutes, however, they do present the film producers, Paramount Pictures, as well as the title. The film's budget was around $20 million US dollars, but grossed $56,631,572 within the box offices. Alicia Silverstone, who was cast as main character Cher, achieved many awards for this film, including MTV Movie Award for Best Female Performer in 1996, and MTV Movie Award for Most Desirable Female Performer in 1996. The film's director, Amy Heckerling, was also awarded the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Screenplay in 1996. Therefore, whilst I continue my project planning research, I feel including successful movies such as this one will greatly help me understand how to make the most of my short film.
