Film Planning Project Research - 13 Going On 30
While conducting the final preparations in my film research, I realized I needed to take a closer look at the performing styles I might need in my piece. I decided to observe the film 13 Going On 30, in which Jenna Rink, played by Jennifer Garner, who dreams of being popular, is humiliated by her classmates at her 13th birthday party and wishes to be 30. Her wish comes true, however she in unsure about how she got there and how to go back. Within the first two minutes of this film, not many jobs are established besides the production company: Revolution Studios, its distribution company: Columbia Pictures, their associates: Roth/Arnold Productions and Gina Matthews Productions, and the two leading actors: Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo. The words fade off to begin the first scene, revealing Jenna taking her school picture. Most of the shots shown are post production visual effects, as most of the first two minutes introduce the movie's producers through editing techniques. However, they do employ the use of a zoom out on a backdrop for school pictures at a middle school where Jenna sits awkwardly, waiting for her picture. The camera continues to zoom out as photographer fixes and directs Jenna, calling her "Gina", incorporating a shot reverse shot as she repeatedly corrects him, resulting in an awful photo, then cutting straight to the title, a product of post production visual effects. This movie and actors received multiple nominations, however, did not win any awards. Therefore, by researching well-known films such as 13 Going On 30 is beneficial to our process due to the portraying of a relationship changing between the characters through certain events.
